Changes to GP services
NHS Great Yarmouth and Waveney Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) is informing patients of several changes to the GP services provided at Kirkley Mill Health Centre which are due to take place later this spring.
Currently, three practices operate from the site, in Clifton Road, Lowestoft – Kirkley Mill, the Westwood Surgery and a branch of the Victoria Road Surgery.
On 31 March, the Westwood contract, which is held by East Coast Community Healthcare, will come to an end. As the practice has just 1,500 registered patients, it is not financially viable for another provider to run the service so the CCG has made the decision to let the contract end, which effectively means the practice will close.
Instead, Westwood Surgery patients are being invited to:
• Re-register with Kirkley Mill Health Centre to continue receiving care at the same site
• Chose to re-register with any of the three neighbouring surgeries which are accepting new patients, which are:
- Victoria Road Surgery at 82 Victoria Road, Oulton Broad
- Andaman Surgery at 303 Long Road
- Rosedale Surgery at Ashburnham Way, Carlton Colville
Patients will be automatically re-registered at Kirkley Mill if they take no action by Friday 17 March.
On the same day, the Victoria Road Surgery is proposing to close its branch surgery at Kirkley Mill and transfer its 1,600 patients back to its main surgery, in Victoria Road.
The practice and CCG will be holding a two-week engagement exercise from Monday 30 January 2017 to get patient’s views on the plans. A survey will be available on the practice website, on the reception in both surgeries and on the CCG website from Monday.
If the closure goes ahead, patients will be automatically transferred to the practice at Victoria Road, unless they chose to re-register at Kirkley Mill or any of the neighbouring surgeries.
No patients will be left without a GP practice as a result of these changes, which do not affect the 4,300 patients registered with Kirkley Mill Health Centre.
Anyone with any questions should contact Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) on 01502 719567 between 9am – 4 pm.
