Chief officer appointed to STP
Norfolk and Waveney Sustainability and Transformation Partnership (STP) has appointed Melanie Craig as its interim executive lead.
Ms Craig, who is chief officer at NHS Great Yarmouth and Waveney Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), has taken over from Antek Lejk, who has left the role following his appointment as chief executive at Norfolk and Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust.
She will lead the STP – which is a partnership of local health and social care organisations – as it strives to make services more sustainable while continuing to meet growing demand. This will be achieved by focusing more on preventing ill health, as well as looking after more people at home or within the community so that fewer need a hospital bed.
Ms Craig will continue in her role at the CCG, which she has held since February 2017.
She said: “I am delighted to have been appointed to this role and look forward to leading the next stage for our STP and CCG so that we can transform services and provide even better care for people in Norfolk and Waveney.”
Ms Craig joined the NHS in 1999 and has held a number of senior leadership roles, including as chief officer at Southend CCG. She also spent seven years working in Suffolk, where she was director of primary care with the primary care trust before helping to set up Ipswich and East Suffolk CCG as its chief operating officer.
Patricia Hewitt, independent chair of Norfolk and Waveney STP, said: “I am delighted that Melanie will be the interim executive lead for our Sustainability and Transformation Partnership. I’ve enjoyed getting to know her over the past few months and am looking forward to working more closely with her as we develop our integrated care system.
“Melanie’s drive, focus and experience, coupled with the commitment of each of the partners involved in our STP, will enable us to continue to improve the care and services we provide.
“I’d like to thank Antek once again for his leadership over the past year and wish him well in his new role – it’s excellent that we will still be working very closely with him.”
