Beccles medical teams make a splash at fun triathlon event

The local NHS in Great Yarmouth and Waveney is encouraging residents to become more active to help support health and wellbeing.

Recently the local clinical commissioning group (CCG), agreed to fund the start-up of a new parkrun in Great Yarmouth.

The initiative is supported by local GP practices who have put forward volunteers to help run the event and will be referring patients who they think could benefit.

To launch a parkrun about 15 volunteers are needed. Organisers are still looking for more help so if you would like to get involved please contact Trevor Rawson

There are many possible roles, including timekeeper, marshal, reporter, photographer and run director.  Volunteering for parkrun has been very popular with those working towards their Duke of Edinburgh Awards, so if you know someone who may be interested do encourage them to get in touch.

There are lots of different ways to get more active. Visit to find out more.

Dr Julia McLean, Partner at Beccles Medical Centre, set herself a goal to complete a triathlon in 2016.

Since then, she has done many triathlons and now coaches three teams from Beccles Medical Centre made up of GPs, nurses, pharmacists, optometrists and other disciplines.

The teams entered the Aldeburgh Fun Team Relay Triathlon on September 15 and had a great day.  Many had never competed in a triathlon before and some had never participated in a sea swim.

Julia Deo, an advanced nurse practitioner, said after the event: “When I feel like quitting I think I might be inspiring someone else to take the first step/next step in whatever challenge they have set themselves. We don’t know what we can achieve unless we try.”

Pictured below are some of the multi-disciplinary team members who took part in the Aldeburgh Fun Team Relay Triathlon.
