Book an annual health check

People with learning disabilities and their carers are being urged to make sure they visit their GP for an annual health check as part of a new national campaign which aims to improve access to care.


Patient Transport Services

Patient Transport Services (PTS) are provided for patients whose medical condition(s) mean that they are unable to travel in any other way to healthcare appointments in hospitals and other clinical locations. The Suffolk CCGs have produced a leaflet called Non-emergency transport to hospital for people living in Suffolk and also outside the Waveney area. Please remember that NHS transport to routine hospital appointments is only available for patients requiring clinical support during their journey, and who are unable to travel by any other means.

It can be difficult for patients to identify alternative travel options so we have set some of those out below:

Centre 81 (Great Yarmouth area)

A community bus service provided in Great Yarmouth for people with disabilities who are unable to use public transport. A fare is charged and there is an annual membership charge. For further information, or to book transport: 01493 332253.

Community transport services

Provided by volunteers, using their own vehicles on a non-profit making basis.

Dial a ride services (Waveney)

Dial a ride services offer door to door transport using fully accessible minibuses for people who are unable to access conventional bus services because of where they live, or because they have mobility difficulties.

Flexible bus services available to anyone who is not able to access bus services directly. For more information telephone 0345 6066171 or:

Transport Plus (Great Yarmouth area)

A voluntary car service for people who have difficulty travelling to essential services. There us a charge and booking requests can be made 9am until 4pm Monday to Friday by telephoning: 0344 800 8020.

Wheels within wheels (Waveney area)

Wheels within whells provide a specially converted vehicle for people needing to travel in their wheelchair. The service is available seven days a week. To book please call: 0845 5564171 at least 24 hours in advance.

Help with transport costs

Bus passes and travel vouchers are available for people who are disabled or receieve the state pension. You can apply for travel vouchers if you are eligible for a bus pass, and live in a remote area, or cannot benfit from free bus travel because of disability.
